Category of Speakers
Broadly, speakers are classified into two categories:
- Factory Car Speakers are designed in way to be cost effective but does not produce great sound.
- Aftermarket Car Speakers employ the latest speaker technology and provide high quality sound.
Aftermarket speakers utilize the latest speaker technology and are made from hi-tech materials. Some of them are:
- Mylar
- Aramid
- Silk
- Aluminium
Car speakers are sold in two main types:
- Full-range speakers
Full range speakers come in 2, 3 or 4-way. Full-range speakers are of the following types:- A 2-way Speaker is the most common of all the full-range speakers and helps to upgrade a vehicle's factory speakers. A 2-way speaker comprises of a tweeter, which produces high frequency and is mounted in front of a woofer that produces low frequency. Tweeters deliver incredible sound.
- 3-way Speakers add another driver that generally handles the midranges. Mid-range and mid-bass drivers offer more snap to the sound quality.
- 4-way Speakers add a super-tweeter for extended high frequency reproduction.
- Component Speakers
- Component speakers are usually sold as a set consisting of four individual speakers, two woofers and two cross overs, with crossovers. All are available as separate components and when mounted produces great sound effect.
- Component speakers offer greater musical detail and clarity as compared to most full-range speakers.
- Horn Loaded Compression Drivers
These speakers offer high efficiency and low distortion for the greatest audible sound quality. - Box Speaker System
These speaker boxes deliver full-range sound in car or truck. They are a good option if one cannot install new speakers in the vehicle.
Installation of car speakers varies depending of type of speaker to be installed. Likewise, full-range speakers are generally easy to install whereas, component speakers are little difficult to install. All type of speakers consist of the following accessories:
